After a Lifetime of Discrimination, Aging Boomers Face Dangers

The Baby Boomers set records, commanded attention and demanded action. The generation that began as the soldiers returned home from WWII and ended in the early 1960's with the birth of the youngest boomer, seemed to always have the spotlight; they made Barbie a part of the family, embraced Frisbees, and hula hoops, and made Wham-O, Hasbro and Mattel billion dollar companies.  This conscience minded generation, nearly 79 million strong, made national headlines because of the strength in their size.  Boomers demanded an end to the Vietnam conflict and called for equal rights for women, black Americans, gay folks and the marginalized.

This year, the oldest Boomer becomes 73 years old and the youngest turns 55.  As Boomers look at matters related to aging, and try to prepare for health challenges, alarming developments are hitting them head-on.  Abuse, neglect and government sanctioned discrimination of gay or transgender citizens in residential facilities designed to support aging is prevalent.  Workers are allowed to fail to provide care under the Trump Administration's "Conscience Rule".
This unconscionable practice is this generation's embarrassment.  We are better than this!
